How old is too old to take up a sport again?

Just wondering how old is too old to take up a sport again?
Yesterday, I finally managed to locate a Softball team and start playing again. Wasn't the actual team I was looking for but these guys seemed to have a more replaxed approach to the game compared to the original team I was looking for. So, I ended up staying with the relaxed guys! Anyway, we did some training and played a game.  It would appear that after nearly 8 years catching and throwing the ball isn't a problem.  However, running between bases was a bit of an issue... Sort of like a cross between an immovable object and an unstoppable force! But... I did slide into second, doing the splits and ripping my trousers.... At my age, having never done the splits before, this is a problem! As is trying to find another pair of trousers that fits!

Although, the worst effect on the auld body appears to have been when batting.... Swinging the bat and making connection with the ball.... fine.... I can still hit the ball... but the shock that rips through your arm and down your spine has left me almost crippled this morning!  By back is in bits, it was twinging all night. I'm going to have to make sure it I warm up proper next time.  (Does anyone know any good stretches for the lower back?)  Need to go find my hot& cold packs.  I feel like an old man, but with my 35th birthday just around the corner, surely I am not too old to take up a sport again?!
Despite all the pain, I'm glad to finally get back in the saddle.  It's been far too long since I've done sports regularly, I do go hiking most Saturday mornings, but that's not to strenuous.  We'll be training most Sundays and have games on Mondaysand Wednesdays.  Really looking forward to getting back into it propper....
And who knows, I may even get a bit fitter/healthier in the process!
